Moss Cove - Laguna Beach

Couple Engagement Photograph at Moss Cove

Laguna Beach beaches are definitely one of a kind. Most locals have their favorite “secret” beach in Laguna Beach and for this couple, it’s Moss Cove. What a great spot!

Street parking can be a little hard to find but our mentality is always just to be patient and drive slow. You’ll eventually find something! We parked on Ocean Ave just a couple small streets north of the beach entrance. A lifeguard met us at the bottom of the stairs to let us know about the high tide and advised us to stay on the rocks when lounging and be wise in the water. We had arrived around 5:20pm and began shooting around 6:05. The tide had lowered slightly by the time we started and exposed more of the shore.

This beach has classic California sea cliffs with large rock formations reaching into the water. A mixture of rustic and glamorous beach house perched on top the cliffs with private staircases leading down to the sand. At this session we had some time constraints so the couple could get to their engagement party, but the higher sun and high tide didn’t stop these pictures from turning out amazing! Sean chose a great spot and Emily was surprised and stunning!

The water was so blue and clear which can be rare for SoCal beaches that are sometimes known to be more teal and cloudy from sand. The waves splashing up against the rocks put little mermaid to shame and even though the sun was still high the blown out white background gave the photos a cool toned brightness.

This sun kissed couple looked completely in their element and so in love!

Such a privilege to capture this special life moment as they start their forever together.

We left swiftly after the session to give them time to themselves. We will definitely be back to this spot for future beach sessions or even during low tide to explore the possible tide pools!

The drive to and from is a scenic one! Beautiful drive on PCH through the beach town of Laguna. Always busy, especially 5pm on a Friday, but iconic none the less. Driving down the Laguna canyon is also very scenic with the desert hills and unique businesses and homes on either side. At the start of the canyon coming from PCH is the Sawdust Festival grounds. Celeste’s family grew up going to the Sawdust Festival every year during the summer and Christmas time. Such a great place to see local art, local bands/music, and art demonstrations. Celeste’s favorite was definitely the glass blowing demonstration where you can watch first hand the full glow blowing process! Everyone should make a point of going at least once.
